Lord St Oswald unveils Freedom of the City declaration at celebratory lunch

Meridian hosts a celebratory lunch and commemorative Freedom of the City of Wakefield declaration unveiling.

Lord St Oswald celebrated being awarded the Freedom of the City of Wakefield with the unveiling of a commemorative declaration in The Nostell Estate’s social space, Meridian.

His Lordship was declared an honorary freeman of Wakefield earlier this year. The exquisite hand-produced certificate will be located in Meridian for tenants and visitors to enjoy.

To mark the unveiling, guests were treated to a celebratory lunch. The lunch was attended by the current leader of Wakefield Council, Cllr Denise Jeffery, alongside previous Wakefield mayors and dignitaries.

I was absolutely delighted to receive this award and honoured that so many people voted for me. It’s wonderful to be recognised for supporting local veterans, businesses and charities because acting as an ambassador for the region is dear to my heart.

The Freedom of the City of Wakefield is rarely awarded, with the former chairman of the Rugby Football League Club, Sir Rodney Walker, and Wakefield Trinity Legend, Neil Fox, previous recipients of the award.

The accolade is the highest honour Wakefield Council can bestow on an individual or organisation and reflects Lord St Oswald’s outstanding contribution to the Wakefield district.

One such contribution is The Nostell Estate business park. The park is home to over 40+ businesses benefitting the local economy by employing in excess of 250 people. A close-knit tenant community enjoys the dedicated on-site café and social hub, Meridian. Tenants can access facilities such as free bicycles, showers, canine showers, electric car charging points and wildflower meadows.
