Practice Director at Newport Land and Law, Ellen Wood, tells us more about work-life on The Nostell Estate.

tell us more about Newport land and law…

We’re a team of conveyancing solicitors and legal consultants working across residential and commercial property, wills, trusts, probate, dispute and LPA services. Our main office is at The Nostell Estate in Wakefield, but our colleagues are located all over the UK, enabling us to represent clients from Cornwall to Cumbria.

Our caring approach is what makes us different. We believe that everyone should be free to be themselves, and we focus on the well-being of each and every individual we work with. We don’t necessarily fit the stereotypes of your typical legal team, either! But our clients tell us they love working with us, and we’re proud to have five-star Google reviews in the double figures!

Why did you make the nostell estate your base?

Newport Land and Law (NLL) was established in 2017 from our directors’ front room! While we’re a relatively young team in that respect, we have hundreds of years of combined experience in legal know-how, literally! As the business grew, our directors realised we needed to establish a permanent base that was a little less residential. Our founders, Anna and Clive, are local to The Nostell Estate Business Park and decided it would be a good solution. It’s a lovely spot for employees and visiting clients with its beautiful parkland and historic properties. It’s also very dog-friendly – much to the delight of my black lab, Bertie.

can anyone use Newport Land and Law Services?

Yes, we encourage anyone that needs advice or support to get in touch. We pride ourselves on being honest and upfront. There are no smoke and mirrors with NLL. What you see is what you get, and we take pride in walking our clients through every step of their legal process with full transparency.

We also understand that with rising costs of living, knowing the cost of our services upfront is helpful. We have a detailed ‘How Much Will It Cost Me?‘ page on our website for those looking to get an initial idea. We recommend that you call and speak to a team member if you require further information. Of course, if you’re local, you can pop in for a drink, and possibly some cake, at Nostell!

How can potential clients follow you for general advice?

Those looking for general advice and tips (for example, those considering moving house) can follow our monthly blog. On our blog, we cover topics such as ‘Why Buying an Eco Home is a Bit Like Juggling‘ and ‘Things the Property Information Form Might Omit‘. We also have an active LinkedIn page for general NLL updates. We do have a permanent resources section on site. So if users would prefer not to follow us but download information when it suits them, they can download our e-books.

what’s next for your business?

We continue to grow Newport Land and Law by taking on more consultant solicitors to deliver our legal services. Moving into 2023, we’ve launched Inspired Progress Limited, where we’re developing trailblazing adaptive legal support in an understandable, open-minded and practical way.

Working with the wider property and legal sectors, we will deliver mentoring, audit, training, and workplace-in-crisis packages. These packages range from the basics of property transactions for new estate agents to annual compliance and infrastructure audits that ensure legal firms run as efficiently as possible.

Newport Land and Law is located in Office 18, The Walled Garden at Nostell Estate. You can contact them here.
