A Brilliant Evening of Cricket and Community
Published: 30.06.26
On 17 June, the Nostell Estate Lords XI took to the field for the first time as they faced Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club in what proved to be a fantastic evening of friendly cricket, great company and community spirit.
Bringing Everyone Together
Jointly organised by the Estate and Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club, the match brought together colleagues, families, friends and supporters for an occasion that was about far more than runs and wickets. With the sunshine holding out, a barbecue enjoyed by everyone in attendance and plenty of laughter throughout the evening, it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time together away from the working day.
For many of the players, this was the first time they had played together as a team. A couple of last-minute changes to the line-up meant our Estate Director, Peter, and Blair Wallace, our land agent, stepped in to represent the Estate, with Blair making his cricket debut. Both embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and helped create the relaxed, good-humoured atmosphere that made the evening so memorable.
Throughout the match there was plenty of encouragement from the sidelines, with families, colleagues and supporters enjoying the occasion together. It was particularly pleasing to see such a strong turnout despite England’s opening World Cup fixture taking place later that evening, proving that the community spirit around the Estate was more than enough to keep people together.
The Match
On the field, Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club secured the win, finishing on 101 for 9 before bowling the Estate side out for 74. While the result ultimately went in favour of the home side, the scoreline never felt like the main story. Both teams embraced the friendly spirit of the occasion, showing great sportsmanship, healthy rivalry and encouragement from the first ball to the last.
More Than Cricket
Events like this are an important part of life at Nostell. They help strengthen relationships, create new friendships and bring together the wider Estate community in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Whether people were playing, cheering from the boundary, or simply catching up over a burger from the barbecue, everyone played a part in making the evening such a memorable occasion.
Peter said:
“It was fantastic to see so many people come together and enjoy the evening. The cricket was played in exactly the right spirit, but more importantly, it gave colleagues, families, friends and members of the club the chance to spend time together, and I think everyone had a great time. We’d like to thank Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club for helping make it such a success, and we’re already looking forward to making it an annual fixture and doing it all again next year.”
Looking Ahead
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped organise the event, took part on the evening and came along to support both teams. Special thanks also to Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club for helping make the evening such a success.
If the smiles at the end of the evening were anything to go by, this is only the beginning. We’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2027 rematch!
