My Nostell: Angela Greensitt, Orchard End

Published: 28.02.23 | by Gayle Summers, Estate Administrator | 2 minute read

We caught up with one of the estate’s residential tenants, Angela Greensitt of Orchard End, to find out why it provides the ‘perfect life’.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF…

My name is Angela Greensitt, and I live at Orchard End, West Hardwick. I’ve lived here since 1995, and my (late) husband was born on the property, so, it’s a place that’s very close to my heart. I’m originally from Chapelthorpe on the other side of Wakefield, but I’m glad to call Orchard End home.

WHAT IS LIFE AT ORCHARD END LIKE?

West Hardwick is a tiny hamlet in West Yorkshire. Bringing our children up in such a beautiful rural location has been a dream come true, really. My only grandchild lives in Market Rasen, but she loves to come and visit; it feels like a holiday when the sun’s shining! There are lots of horses in the surrounding fields, and my daughter’s pony is in one of them. It’s a very outdoor lifestyle, which I enjoy.

WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION TO PRIORY ROSES?

Many residential tenants of the estate have a working connection with the St Oswald family; my husband, Ian, was no exception.

My husband’s father founded Priory Roses with the 5th Baron St Oswald of Nostell (Lord St Oswald’s father). Their roses won many awards, including a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show. They also named some breeds, calling them Catherine Cookson and Arnold Greensitt after Ian’s grandad.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND LIFE AS AN ESTATE TENANT?

Yes! Absolutely. It’s a perfect life. It really is. The location, the support of the estate – it’s all you need really. As a family, we’ve made many wonderful memories in this place, and I hope to continue to do so for many years.
