Gayle Summers

What were you doing before you came to the Nostell Estate?

I was the Receptionist and Administrator at the Ice Co. Ltd in South Kirkby for nine years. I really enjoyed working there but unfortunately, like so many businesses, Covid-19 has taken its toll on the business. As a result, after a short time on furlough, I was made redundant in July.

What attracted you to the role here?

Before I arrived at Nostell Estate I had the usual pre-interview nerves. As I drove into the estate, I saw someone walking their dog on the green and the beautiful buildings and surroundings immediately gave me a good vibe. I thought ‘this is a place where I would love to work’! Peter, Hayley and Lord St Oswald made me feel very comfortable and relaxed throughout my interviews, which helped me to come across well and be myself. It is so important to be able to be who you are at work – after all, we spend so much time here! I was over the moon to be offered this amazing opportunity.

What are you going to be doing in the Estate Office?

I will be working in the Estate Office and assisting Peter, as well as providing a friendly front of house contact for tenants and visitors. There is a lot to learn – new systems, names of the offices and buildings, along with getting to know all our tenants. I am sure working alongside Rod and Paul they will soon have me up to date. I will also play a part in looking after Meridian, taking meeting room bookings and arranging catering. My working hours will be Monday to Friday 9am – 2pm when I will be able to offer my assistance and provide information.

What do you like to do when you are not here at the Nostell Estate?

I have two dogs – a Pug and a Labrador, so they keep me busy with lots of walks. I love spending time with my family and friends (when we are not in lockdown!) Additionally, I enjoy travelling and visiting new places, but once again, lockdown is preventing that particular hobby at the moment!

What are you looking forward to here at Nostell?

It is just such a lovely place to work! I am excited to learn a new role and hope I can use my previous experience to help make positive changes. I’m looking forward to working with Peter and the team here at Nostell and East Newton, as well as meeting the tenants and becoming part of the friendly community on the estate. Getting involved with marketing of Meridian to make it a place where everyone feels welcome will be really important. I can see that Leah, who provides the catering in Meridian is really building up a fan base. I think it will be so exciting to see how that space grows and evolves, and the positive effect that will have on the community here.
